Motivation
Suggestions to Start
1. Ask the team two basic questions in a group setting: 1) What does team motivation look like to you? 2) What specifically is your motivator specific to what you want to be doing or where you want to end up? This activity can be risky because you’re doing it in a public setting yet there’s a power of people are willing to share. 2. Ask people on an individual basis: 1) What is their motivation? 2) Where do they want to end up and what would they like to be doing? After learning this information, schedule quarterly updates for them to share actions they have pursued to move in the direction of their motivation.
More Aggressive Suggestions
1. Set up peer-to-peer coaching where people are sharing their goals and their motivations in a safe environment. You can rotate the partners as well. People tend to commit to their goals and motivations more readily when they’ve demonstrated some vulnerability by revealing their motivations. 2. A great book specific to motivation is by Daniel Pink, Motivation . Ask people to read that book and every two weeks share what they learned from each chapter and how they will successfully apply it to their own career.
