Initiative Lacking
Suggestions to Start
1. Most people will not admit they lack initiative, so create an activity by presenting a definition of positive initiative or a description of someone who takes initiative. Send it to the person(s) you’re coaching and ask them to detail the strengths they exhibit against the definition and possibly one or two areas where they could improve. This will start the process.
More Aggressive Suggestions
1. Ask people to pair up in groups of two for peer-to-peer coaching and rotate the partners over a period of time with everybody on the team meeting with one another and sharing what they specifically do to take initiative and how it has served them well. 2. After the first activity, have each person e-mail you two things they learned from their conversations and one thing they put into positive action to take initiative going forward based on those conversations.
