Lacking Accountability

Suggestions to Start

1. Provide a definition of accountability and ask the person(s) you’re coaching to look at the definition and literally highlight the areas in one color pen of where they exhibit strengths, and in another color highlight the areas where they have an opportunity to improve. 2. After the first activity, ask the person(s) being coached to detail three to four actions they are going to take from a discipline standpoint to execute specific to the definition of accountability.

More Aggressive Suggestions

1. Use journal-based coaching where the person(s) you are coaching literally define on a daily or every-other-day basis the successes they are having as a result of being accountable. When people write things down, they tend to commit to them more. If you combine this with a mentor or a peer-to-peer coaching apparatus this will accelerate the success.
