LOT 23 – CHIEF 12 YO/ROAN PAINT JOHN MULE/15.0 HH MARY JORDAN ESTATE – RILEY, KANSAS
Chief is the last of a legacy. Jerry Jordan bred and broke mules for years to ride, pack, for elk hunting and fishing the Colorado Mountains; Chief was his last broke riding mule and he rode him until his death at age 80. Chief is level headed, smart and willing to work. One dad's travel companion tells us, when they went to ride near Mt. Rushmore (photo when Chief was 4 w/dad at 75), that dad got off on the trail. When he went to get back on, he put Chief near a rock to 'step up on'. Well dad slipped off the rock and fell under Chief. The only movement Chief made was to put his head down, look back between his legs at dad, otherwise standing still while dad scrambled out from under him. We’ll be sad to see him leave, but know our father would not want him just 'standing around'. His other mules have been sold, through the years and at his death to individuals and outfitters across the country. Current photos Jerry's son on Chief. References available on Jordan Mule quality.
