Al- ways follow the manufacturer’s recommendations when using liquid thread compounds, and always verify chemical compatibility with the process fluid. Threaded connections are specified by the nominal pipe size and the type of thread (NPT, BSP or other). Threaded pipe connections require the rotation of one of the pipes in the joint. When this is not practical, a threaded union may be used. Unions are comprised of two halves that form a flange connection. Flanged connections are commonly used on large piping systems. For process and utilities, the two most common flange standards are ANSI B16.5 and BS 1560. Wellhead flanges are specified by API 6A. Flanges of different standards are not normally joined.
