When you attend the Contemporary American Theater Festival , you are simultaneously stepping into the future and into the past. You are immersed in the world of new plays and stories, all while you are in historic Shepherdstown, the oldest town in West Virginia. Housed at Shepherd University, CATF has earned a reputation as one of the best new play festivals in the country. Every July, patrons from across the globe flock to Shepherdstown for the festival. The magic of rotating repertory allows audience members to see all six plays in as little as two days.
In summer, Shepherd University hosts the Contemporary American Theater Festival. This is your chance to see as many as five new plays performed in one month (July) – plays so innovative, critics and fans nationwide are drawn to the festival.
