Jefferson County Visitor Guide 2023

Thomas Jefferson stood here

Check out this rock formation, Jefferson Rock, on the Appalachian Trail above lower Harpers Ferry. According to Thomas Jefferson in 1783, “This scene is worth a voyage across the Atlantic.”

A visit to Harpers Ferry National Historical Park , at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers, will transport you into the past. Stroll the picturesque streets, visit exhibits and museums, or hike our trails and battlefields. Significant sites include the former United States Armory and Arsenal, and the site of John Brown’s raid that precipitated the Civil War.
