MEMORY VERSE: “Go ye into all the world, and .preach the gospel” (Mk. 16:15). AIM: To show three ways in which our church can grow. APPROACH: (If a visitor or new member is present, without embar rassment to the child you may refer to him in the introduction.) We are so glad to have Harold with us. Some one must have told him about our Sunday school and about the good times we have here as we talk of the Lord Jesus. For years and years this lovely custom has been going on: somebody who knows the Lord Jesus tells someone else about Him; and then the friends of Jesus get together. He is the One who draws us close to each other. LESSON STORY: Long ago, there was just one church, and only a few members were in it at the beginning. But they began to tell others. (Read 11:21). Soon there were groups in many places, for the church was growing bigger. The Lord gave teachers who would help the new believers. Barnabas and Paul were a m o n g the first ones (characterize briefly), They stayed a year in Antioch, and they taught the -Word of God so clearly that the peo ple knew exactly what the Bible said they should do: they should receive the Lord Jesus as their Saviour and then they should live for Him every day. People in Antioch did that so well that others would say of them, “See,- they are Christians, followers of Christ.” In this new way, the church was growing. A growing church will send out missionaries, and the c h u r c h in Antioch did that. Barnabas and Paul were among the best teachers there; but when the church people listened to God’s Word and prayed, they knew that God wanted to use these leaders as missionaries to those who had not heard of the Saviour—so they gladly gave their best to Him. You see, our friends in Antioch knew that the Lord Jesus had said, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel,” and that a Christian—a follower of the Lord Jesus—is always happy to obey. / STAMM ER ? Object Lesson F lee or F ollow

OBJECTS: A large needle, a cork, a bowl of water and two large mag nets. (One magnet should be black and the other white. Split the cork and keep one of the halves. On the round side of this piece of cork stick the needle in sufficiently to cause it to stand straight up when the cork is floating on the water. Rub the head of the needle on one of the prongs of the white magnet. Mark this prong so you will be sure of using it during the lesson. With the cork floating on the water, test the other magnet to see which prong will repel the npedle, and mark it for use in the lesson. Be careful not to let this magnet touch the needle, or the magnetism in the needle will be reversed.) LESSON: This n e e d l e floating peacefully on the water reminds me of a Christian. We will let this black m a g n e t, representing temptation, come near. Look, the wise needle runs away from it. The action of this needle reminds me of some instructions which Paul gave in I Timothy 6:11, “But thou, O man of God, flee these things.” The word “flee” means to run away from. It is a wise person who remembers these instructions when temptation comes. We will see what the needle does when the white magnet comes near. Notice> it is being drawn. (Keep the magnet from touching the needle.) As we see the action of this needle, we are reminded further of what Paul said, “And follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meek ness” (I Tim. 6:11). We can learn a valuable lesson from this needle—that we should flee from things that are sinful and follow after the things that are good.
