Calipers, Vernier and Dial Classification.— The definition of the classifications of vernier calipers was established in the GGG-C-111 standard and provides the basic requirements that were to be met by manufacturers supplying such calipers to the Federal Supply Service, General Services Administration. While the Federal Specifications do not include all varieties of the cal - ipers commercially available, it does provide a guideline for manufacturers. Dial and digital calipers follow the general design features as illustrated in Fig. 17, Fig. 18, and Fig. 20. Any variation in designs must incorporate all aspects and necessary measure­ ment capabilities as defined in the original government specification.
