It has been lovely to welcome students back to school after the half term break. I would like to apologise for the delay returning after we were forced to close the school on Tuesday due to issues with the water supply.
I would like to thank all the parents and carers who attended the Year 9 Options Information Evening before half term. I hope that this was useful and helped you to discuss GCSE choices and future career aspirations with your child over half term. Our Year 11 and Year 13 students are now coming to the end of their courses. This week Year 13 have been completing their final mocks before their A level examinations in the summer. Year 11 students have also been involved in assessments in Music and Food Technology and our Art students have submitted their coursework portfolios for assessment. On Tuesday our Year 10 Textile students visited the V&A to see the sold out Chanel exhibition. Chanel is one of the set designers at GCSE so it was a great opportunity for the students to see the fabulous collection. I am looking forward to seeing many parents at tonight’s PTA Quiz, not only to raise funds for the school but also to have the opportunity to come together as a community. We are also reaching out to parents who may be able to support either a Sixth Form Careers event or our Silent Auction. Please see the end of the bulletin for more information.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING
The Charlie Waller Trust have just launched their new series of free mental health webinars, starting on Monday 4 March. They are presented by expert mental health trainers from CWT and guest speakers who come from a wide range of professions and expertise. The webinars explore practical, evidence-based information and strategies. Topics include: Helping your child understand their emotions and practical strategies to help, Spotting signs that new students are struggling settling in and how to support, Self harm - spotting the signs and providing support, Knowing when a friends struggling and understanding how to help, Spotting signs that a young person is struggling with their mental health. A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 8
It is great to welcome back Year 8 after a well deserved break. I did want to reflect on the last week of the previous half term as it was one of great success. On Tuesday 6 February all Year 8 students were taken to the Rose Theatre to watch the play ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’. The play follows school aged children as they try to reunite the character ‘Ahmet’ with his family. Told from a child’s perspective the piece has a range of themes such as friendship, family and identity. I was so impressed by the behaviour of our students. They represented the school fantastically. It was a great day and I know a number of the students loved the performance. Not only was it a brilliant play, but it also was a great opportunity to learn a range of drama techniques that I hope the students can apply in their performances in the future. A big thank you to Mrs Clarke and all the staff that attended the trip. Also in that final week, we had our year group assembly presented by Mr Isted where he celebrated LGBTQ+ history month. The assembly explored the impact that historical figures have had on supporting the movement as well as considering why it is important that this event is celebrated. Congratulations to the Year 7 and 8 Football team who played in the RSSP tournament. They played 5 games in their pool with only 1 team progressing through to the final so it was a tough job to qualify. Unfortunately they didn’t qualify for the final but drew against the team that did, Orleans Park. I should also acknowledge our epraise tutor group winners for the previous half term. In first place was 8SGZ followed by 8EMU and in third 8PWA. Well done to all forms for their hard work. I hope students are thinking about what to spend their epraise points on! Well done to Flo P in 8FCO for winning a Silver Medal in the London South and West districts Sea Cadets piping competition! With Spring on the horizon, I know that many of the students are looking forward to the warmer weather. I hope that the break provided students a chance to sort any uniform or stationery issues students have had previously. Let’s have a great half term!

The Girl of Ink and Stars by Kiran Millwood Hargrave
This book delves into the story of Isabella, who lives on an island filled with mythical legends and secrets. When a mysterious disappearance of a girl on the Island happens it leaves everyone with questions. The book follows Isabella on her quest of finding the missing girl on the island and solving the strange mysteries of the unknown. Meanwhile, discovering her past and the vibrant history of her ancestors. I like how fast paced and exciting the book is, while also allowing the reader to feel intrigued.

APPRENTICESHIP FOCUS EVENT - SUPPORT NEEDED
As part of our Sixth Form Careers Insight, we have organised an Apprenticeship Focus Event for our Year 12 students on Tuesday 30 April. This event will help our students explore options and gain insights into apprenticeship pathways into different industries.
To make this event successful we are looking for companies who run apprenticeship schemes who can join us for the event and talk to students informally in small groups.
If you are able to offer any support, please contact us at sixthform@waldegravesch.org and we will follow up with more detailed information.
UPCOMING PTA EVENTS
A little help goes a long way … The next events to raise vital funds for the school will be our Silent Auction at the end of March. We really need your help in making this event happen.
