Snowy Range, Laramie, WY Snowy Range installed Snow-Bright™ lighting for a new tubing park within the Medicine
Bow-Routt National Forest, 20 miles from the University of Wyoming Infrared Observatory. Facing concerns about blue light interference and wildlife disruption, the project
underwent rigorous scrutiny from the Observatory Director, National Forest Service, and a bat advocacy group. Snow- Bright™ fixtures demonstrated no detectable blue spectrum emissions above ambient levels, noise levels below 20dB at 2.54cm, and light dissipation below full-moon ambient levels beyond park boundaries. The installation’s approval underscores Snow-Bright’s compatibility with astronomical and ecological requirements.
Steamboat Springs Ski Resort, CO Steamboat Springs introduced night skiing across 1,100 vertical feet, including advanced slopes for race training, using Snow-Bright™ technology. Bordering National Forest land and residential areas, the project faced opposition from environmental advocates. A demonstration proved the technology’s controlled light dispersion, leading to approval by the Town Council and National Forest Service. The installation, covering
beginner to advanced terrain and a half-pipe, achieved near-zero light pollution, with stars visible from the slopes. Racers, clocking speeds over 80mph, reported superior visibility compared to daylight, attributed to the 0.95 CRI and elimination of forward shadowing. The project’s success led to a new race venue, “All Out,” hosting the 2016 NCAA Championships. Mt. Peter, Warwick, NY Mt. Peter, the first Snow-Bright™ installation, retrofitted its advanced slopes, beginner areas, and tubing park from generic magnetic induction and MH/HPS fixtures. The upgrade addressed inadequate visual acuity and non-compliance with local Dark Sky ordinances. Photometric layouts demonstrated uniform illumination and minimal light trespass, with the park area beyond tubing boundaries remaining unaffected. The installation’s clarity and compliance enabled expanded nighttime operations, including race training and outdoor seating areas, setting a precedent for sustainable slope lighting.
