Composting turns organic waste into nutrient-rich soil, improving fertility and root health. Composters are sold at Simcoe Recreation Centre (182 South Dr.). Composting takes three to 18 months, but it will be faster if the pile is turned regularly and covered with a one-inch layer of soil or compost. Dry or frozen piles decompose more slowly. Compost is ready when it has a crumbly texture and a pleasant, earthy smell. Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Sunday Monday Friday Saturday 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9101112 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 CLOSED

Composting tips: • Turn regularly to aerate and avoid smells • Do not compost meat, fish, dairy, bones, pet waste, oils, rhubarb leaves or diseased plants • Add dry material or shredded paper if too wet • Bury fruit and vegetable trimmings at least 6 inches (15 cm) deep
COLLECT, PROTECT & DROP OFF YOUR USED BATTERIES. Used batteries contain toxic materials that can harm the environment if they end up in landfills. They should never be thrown away. The Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program makes it easy to recycle them instead.
