Discover the rich history at 16th and Bryant, where the Safeway now stands on the former site of Seals Stadium, the original home of the San Francisco Giants. Built in 1931, Seals Stadium hosted legendary moments, such as Joe DiMaggio's 61-game hitting streak with the Seals and the first major league home runs of Hall of Famers Willie McCovey and Orlando Cepeda. The iconic Willie Mays also graced its field when the Giants arrived in 1958. Though the Giants moved to Candlestick Park in 1960, and Seals Stadium was subsequently demolished, the legacy lived on through the Double Play Bar and Grill, which cele- brated the site's storied baseball past.
