A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7
We finished the final Thames Young Mariners trip last Friday, despite it being a very wet and windy day, I have to say how impressed I’ve been with all our students’ attitude, effort and the teamwork. I must say that SON and SDE won the resilience award as they kept a smile on their faces despite the awful weather for most of the day! Here are some quotes from 7PFO which summarise their experiences: “I thought it was too good to be true!” - Primrose
“It was really good to get to know other people in my form” - Marianne “Jumping off the dock was a once in a lifetime experience” - Sophie “It was exciting and epic and a great time to make friends” - Mia “Even though we were cold and wet we had the time of our lives!” - Eesha
On Wednesday Year 7 had an assembly from Mrs Dhir on the topic of Black History Month. Year 11 students shared insightful real life stories about a member of their family to help explain this year’s theme of Reclaiming Narratives. It was lovely to see year 7 listening so carefully to what they had to say. Congratulations to Lily Knox-Johnston who is top of the student leaderboard this term. This week the following tutor groups have earned the most epraise points - well done: 1st 7FLY, 2nd 7 ESU, 3rd 7PCO. The first football matches took place this week in the Year 7 & 8 RSSP league, we look forward to hearing about how the team got on in next week’s newsletter. This week we have also had the Scholastic Book Fair, where the purchases help our school library earn free books. Students have been encouraged to take a look at the books on offer and explore different genres as part of their English classes. Next Thursday 10 October is the first Drop Down Day of the school year. We would like to remind parents that Year 7 will need to be in school earlier than usual on this day at 8.15am and will return to school at approximately 4pm to be dismissed. School uniform is to be worn for this trip. We are very much looking forward to going bowling and to the cinema!

BOOK OF THE MONTH
Northern Lights by Philip Pullman
The first book of a majestic fantasy trilogy, Northern Lights introduces readers to the bold heroine, Lyra. Set in a sideways world, where everyone has a daemon in animal form, the story opens with the ominous news that children are going missing, which begins Lyra’s quest for knowledge.
This is a magical book, which is wonderful to read together with children, perhaps paired with the relatively recent BBC adaptation.
