Latest From the Industry Massachusetts Arborists Association Launches Campaign to Support Arboriculture Learning Center
The Massachusetts Arborists Association (MAA), in a strategic partnership with The Trustees, today announced the launch of a $300,000 fundraising cam- paign to create an arboriculture learning center at Millborn Farm, a first-of-its- kind educational and research hub ded- icated to advancing the art and science of tree care. Located on the 190-acre Millborn Farm property in Sherborn and Millis, Mas- sachusetts, the arboriculture learning center will serve as a living laboratory for environmental education, profes- sional development, and field research in arboriculture and land stewardship. “This project represents an unprece- dented opportunity to create a legacy for the MAA and the tree care industry,” said MAA President, Russell Holman, BCMA, MCA, CTSP. “It will give our members a place to learn, collaborate, and share best practices while inspiring the next generation of arborists and en- vironmental stewards.”
The Millborn Farm will be an experiential learning environment that highlights the beneficial role trees play in carbon sequestration and climate resilience while fostering public appreciation for professional tree care.

The MAA has already launched the campaign with $25,000 and is inviting members, partners, and supporters to help reach the full $300,000 goal by the beginning of 2026. Donations will help fund the Carriage Barn renovation, ensuring it remains a center for arboricultural learning for decades to come.
•Professional Development : Safety seminars, certification preparation, and continuing education for MAA members. •Technical Training : Workshops on tree identification and health, pruning, removal, soil science, native plantings, and ecology. •Research Collaboration : Sup- porting UMass field research in Tree Risk Assessment and other cutting-edge studies. •Next Generation Engagement & Networking : A gathering place for collaboration, mentorship, and innovation in tree care practices. Millborn Farm will also support public education, helping communities under- stand the essential role that trees play in carbon sequestration and climate health.
