A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 8

We have finished our Open Morning tours and I have to say I have been incredibly impressed by the levels of maturity shown by our Year 8 Tour Guides as they showed Year 6 parents and students around the school.

Well done to 8PUN who are topping the epraise league table this week for Year 8! They are closely followed by 8EBH and 8FLE. Keep up the great work! Please remind your child that you can be awarded epraise both in lessons and form times for: working collaboratively, great work and homework, supporting each other, engagement in class activities, helping in the classroom, and supporting the teacher/tutor.

This week Lucy L from 8PIR successfully passed her Grade 3 Trinity Violin exam with Distinction, this is a wonderful achievement - you should feel very proud - well done!

Rugby sessions which are run by Richmond Rugby Club on Wednesdays after school are proving very popular with year 8s and this has been great to see - there are still places available - this is a great place to develop determination and teamwork skills and also try something new!

There were some incredible sweet treats baked by our Year 8s which were sold as part of our Macmillan Coffee Morning sale today, the year 11 house captains were incredibly impressed by their creativity.

This week we have also had the Scholastic Book Fair, where the purchases help our school library earn free books. Students have been encouraged to take a look at the books on offer and explore different genres as part of their English classes. Next week we have our Autumn Term Drop Down Day which is focused around African Culture. There will be lots of fun and engaging activities for our Year 8s and we hope that they approach the day with positivity and enthusiasm.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

Northern Lights by Philip Pullman

The first book of a majestic fantasy trilogy, Northern Lights introduces readers to the bold heroine, Lyra. Set in a sideways world, where everyone has a daemon in animal form, the story opens with the ominous news that children are going missing, which begins Lyra’s quest for knowledge.

This is a magical book, which is wonderful to read together with children, perhaps paired with the relatively recent BBC adaptation.
