Classes • Events • Exhibitions irvinefinearts.org

Saturday, June 1 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Irvine Fine Arts Center

Dear Friends, Get inspired by City of Irvine spring exhibitions at the Great Park Gallery, City Hall, and Irvine Fine Arts Center. On view February 11 through May 4 at the Great Park Gallery is Natural Language: Contemporary Book Art which explores how artist books interpret form and nature in thought-provoking ways. The exhibition is curated in collaboration with University California Irvine Special Collections. On view April 8 through May 24 at City Hall is the annual High School Art Exhibition which celebrates the creative achievements of young artists working in a variety of media. This year’s exhibition is guest juried by Marissa Sykes, Director of Arts Education at Angel’s Gate Cultural Center, and an accomplished cross-genre conceptual artist and arts educator. Throughout the galleries at the Fine Arts Center you’ll see compelling photographic-based works in Reencuentros: Seeing You Again ; the exhibition is on view March 2 through May 18. The exhibit features the work of eight emerging artists whose photography explores ideas of home, place, and family and was curated by award-winning artist and arts educator William Camargo, whose work has been published in The New Yorker , Aperture , and The New York Times. Spring quarter brings new and community favorite studio classes to the Irvine Fine Arts Center. Adult ceramic and jewelry courses, along with summer youth arts and culinary camps are heavily impacted, so we encourage you to review this quarter’s course schedule in advance and be prepared early for when morning registration opens. View the catalog online at yourirvine.org , for course descriptions, schedules, and registrations dates. Artisans mark your calendars! The application window for the Studio Arts Festival closes March 1, 2024. Learn more about the event and application information at irvinefineartscenter.org . The annual festival will take place Saturday, June 1, and will showcase local artists working in ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, painting, photography, fiber, glass, and more. Creatively yours,

Laura Murphy Irvine Fine Arts Center Supervisor

EXHIBITIONS

Reencuentros : Seeing You Again Irvine Fine Arts Center Main Gallery + Gallery 1 + Gallery 2 Opening Reception: March 16, 2–4 p.m. Exhibition: March 2–May 18 Home is universal and home is deeply personal; family can be anyone, and family is specifically someone. When written and spoken language cannot express the scope of what home and family mean, we might find a more accurate feeling in a photograph of a kitchen table mid-meal, or a portrait of a loved one. The exhibition Reencuentros: Seeing You Again presents eight contemporary photographers whose works delve into the ubiquitous and intimate nature of family and home. The exhibition’s title translates as reencounter. In the context of the works on view, that reencounter may be with people, place, feeling, or memory shaped by home, family, or domesticity. Through their discrete photographic prac- tices and autobiographical approaches, the artists featured in Reencuentros: Seeing You Again present works that are part homage and part exploration of how home and family blur the boundaries between present and future. The exhibition features works by Valentina Aproda Maurer, Jamil Baldwin, Iris Huerta, Gabriel Gonzalez, Julie Leopo, Rodrigo Morales, Alkaid Ramirez, and Sadie Scott. The exhibition is curated by William Camargo, a photo-based artist, educator, and arts advocate born and raised in Anaheim, California, and founder of Latinx Diaspora Archives.
