8. Awards of merit received from relevant local, national or international organizations. 9. Leadership roles in departmental, hospital, college, university, and/or national committees related to clinical care and service and/or administration. Leading essential, effort intensive and impactful committees, such as IACUC, IRB, college RPT, graduate program faculty, medical school admissions committee, mentorship committees, grievance committees are given more weight than service on committees with lower levels demands. 10. Membership in prestigious societies, such as the American Society of Clinical Investigation, and the Association of American Physicians. 11. A description of activities and accomplishments related to the administration of programs of clinical care and/or the organization of clinical service for more effective clinical care. The ability to organize a clinical service and/or administration that provides a setting for medical education and a data base for clinical research is a most laudable goal for the clinician educator. Ideally, a unique and effective clinical service is reported in an appropriate medical journal. REAPPOINTMENT Reappointment at the same rank in the Clinical Investigator Track depends upon satisfactory performance in the areas of clinical scholarship, teaching/mentoring, service and patient care and demonstration of continuing professional development along criteria specified for the rank. Generally, the candidate's activities and work completed at the University of Cincinnati carry the most weight when considering reappointment. PROMOTION Promotion in this track requires progress and contributions in the areas defined for each rank. Accomplishments during the candidate's appointment at this university weigh heavily in qualifying for promotion. The candidate must have achieved the qualifications indicated for the higher rank. TENURE Tenure is a permanent commitment by the department, college and university and is based on past, sustained scholarly achievement, the future potential of the faculty member, and the needs of the department and college. There must be clear evidence that the individual's academic growth and value to the college will be sustained. Tenure is only granted at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor and the specific guidelines used for promotion to these ranks are outlined in the preceding sections. As such, many of the criteria associated with advancement to Associate Professor are similar to tenure requirements; however, external recognition as an established scholar is the most important prerequisite for awarding tenure.
