The Complete Kit for: Simplified Surgical Procedures To regenerate periodontal intraosseous defects

Always keep it simple and straightforward.

Prof. Leonardo Trombelli

Focus on: Microsurgery

In periodontal reconstructive therapy, the most challenging objective is to minimize the surgical trauma. This issue can only be achieved improving the clinical outcomes of the surgical reconstructive therapy, on one side, and optimizing the post surgical wound healing processes and the patient comfort, on the other side. Thus, we explored less invasive and simplified surgical techniques capable to obtain the regeneration of the periodontal tissues, reduce the surgical trauma, and increase the generalizability of the results. Clinical outcomes such as these can be obtained only with specifically and appropriately designed instruments with an associated optical magnification system (loop or microscope). Keeping this in mind, Leonardo Trombelli ideates the kit for simplified surgical procedures for periodontal regeneration. SIMPLIFIED SURGICAL PROCEDURES To regenerate periodontal intraosseous defects The Complete Kit for: Simplified Surgical Procedures This kit contains selected and appropriately designed instruments for the surgical reconstruction of periodontal tissues: • Periosteal with reduced working ends not to traumatize the tissues during flap elevation. • Ultrafine manual and mechanical instruments for a minimally invasive intrasurgical debridement. • Suture instruments.

WHY YOU SHOULD USE AN INSTRUMENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (IMS):NFINITY SERIES™ By standardising your instruments with IMS System, additional time and revenue is generated while extending the useful life of your Hu-Friedy instruments. Dental professionals state that by implementing IMS™ Cassettes, they save 5 to 10 minutes per procedure allowing the staff to spend more time on value-added activities*. In addition, safer transportation of soiled instruments reduces risk of injury and exposure to blood borne pathogens.

DID YOU KNOW? All hinged instruments – forceps, rongeurs, scissors, pliers, hemostats, orthodontic pliers, etc. – should be kept lubricated. Regular use of proper lubricants, like Instrument Lubricant Spray ( ILS ), will prevent rust, corrosion and stiff joints to ensure smooth operation. All hinged instruments should be sterilised in the open position.

SURGICAL STEPS AND INSTRUMENTS USE PERIODONTAL RECONSTRUCTION/REGENERATION Single Flap Approach (Trombelli et al. 2007) This technique is characterized by elevating a mucoperiosteal flap only in one side (buccal or oral exclusively) to achieve the surgical access to the infraosseous defect. Such a surgical access implies a minimal bone exposure and an easy surgical flap adaptation. This technique has to be associated to the use of membranes, biological agents or grafts, alone or in association.

PCPUNC156 Qulix SE UNC Probe, 1-15 Markings, hdl #6 The probe allows us to diagnose the osseous defect anatomy, through bone sounding.

FH3/76 Hirschfeld files 3/7 #6

FH5/116 Hirschfeld 5/11 Mesial-Distal File, #6

The Hirschfeld files permit us to degranulate the bottom of the defect, even in presence of narrow and deep intraosseous lesions. Furthermore, they can decorticalize the defect bone walls to expose the marrow cavities, improving the osteogenic potential of the defect.

10-130-05E #5 Scalpel Handle The round scalpel handle gives us optimal tactile sensibility and firm control of the blade rotational movements.

PTROM16 1 Trombelli Periosteal #6 The periosteal PTROM16 has two small round ends. It’s specifically designed for flap elevation in the interdental area.

TPDAPV Swiss Perio Microsurgical Plier, Anatomical, 18.1 cm The anatomical pliers can move the flap without tearing the soft tissue.

SL1/2MF6 Langer 1/2 Mini Five™ Curette #6

At 5 years, probing measurements are compatible with maintenance of periodontal health and esthetics. PCPUNC156 Qulix SE UNC Probe, 1-15 Markings, hdl #6

The straight needle holder with small working ends permits us to precisely control the needle movements. NHDPV Diamond dusted castroviejo microsurgical needle holder, straight , 6-0, 7-0, 8-0 18 cm

The Mini-Five Langer universal curettes allow us to remove the granulation tissue and to plan any irregularities of the root.

The program is developed to provide competence and technical skills on the Step 1-3 treatment of stage 3 and 4 periodontitis cases. Master students will also be involved in the research activity of the Research Centre for the Study of Periodontal and Peri-implant Diseases. .

POSTGRADUATE COURSE “PROBLEM SOLVING IN PERIODONTOLOGY” Ferrara, Italy in collaboration with Dr. Luigi Minenna

MORE INFO

A one-year course is based on 7 2-3 days modules on treatment planning of severe periodontitis cases. In particular, the teaching activity will be focused on the Step 3 corrective surgical phase with special emphasis on simplified, minimally invasive procedures for osseous resective, periodontal regenerative and mucogingival surgery to correct bone defects and soft tissue deficiency. The course provides lectures, discussion of clinical cases and hands-on training on different case phenotypes and surgical scenarios.
