The thief on the other hand; first started off railing against the Lord, just as did the one who remained impenitent. Sentence Sermons * * * A true prayer is an inventory of wants, a catalog of necessities, and a revelation of hidden poverty. * * * Victory is assured for the Christian who works today, for NOW spelled backwards is WON! * * * If you worked for your employer as you serve God, how long would you hold your job? * * * The man who is self-centered is also off- centered. * * * It is better to have clean hands and a pure heart than to have clever hands and a smooth tongue. * * * While we are saved to serve, we cannot serve to besaved. * * * Christ sends none away empty except those who are already full of themselves. * * * While you may not be able to keep the devil from coming down your street, you can at least keep him from stopping at your house! * * * It is those who lean too far into the future who most certainly will fall flat on their faces. * * * Facing the days ahead, remember God's best gifts to us are not things but oppor­ tunities to serve Him. * * * Self respect in a man is kind of like salt in the soup. When it comes, and it surely will, there will be no question in your mind. As an analogy think of a young per­ son who may say, “How will I know when I’m really in love?” If it is the real thing one knows. As the Scotsman said, “It’s better felt than ‘telt.’ ” When a cross comes, something which is heart rending, trying the spirit, it is unmistakable. There are some crosses which Christians bear through­ out their lifetime of experience. Q. Anderson, California — “ Don’t you be­ lieve that the separation of church and state can go too far?” A. Yes, we do. There is a very ardent religious group, working in our coun­ try, which goes so far that they refuse to vote. Such is far from the Scrip­ tures. While we are members of the body of Christ, we are also citizens of our beloved country.We do not be­ lieve that the church needs to take sides on issues which are purely politi­ cal. But there are great moral issues of our day, which could eventuate in the complete destruction of the church if they were-allowed to be carried out completely, and on such we must take a firm stand. We want our country to be a nation in which our children, and children’s children if the Lord tarry, will love to dwell in liberty. Q.
