If the contents of this module were to be described in one word, then it is “service.” Guided by Republic Act (RA) No. 9163, otherwise known as the “National Service Training Program (NSTP) Act of 2001,” this course module endeavors to instill nationalism, patriotism, social awareness, servant-leadership, and other-centeredness among Filipino college students. Its primary goals are to discuss multidisciplinary concepts and provide learning opportunities for students so that they develop their love for fellow citizens and for the country. Additionally, it aims to imbibe in students a genuine concern for the welfare of their respective communities by accomplishing varied acts of service. ABOUT THE AUTHORS

RAPHAEL M. FERRER

He is an assistant professor with extensive experience working in higher education at the University of the Philippines-Los Baños. He is skilled in community organizing, teaching community psychology, and conducting social psychological research. He has a master’s degree in Applied Social Psychology from Ateneo de Manila University, and he is pursuing his PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of the Philippines-Diliman.

ERIC PAUL D. PERALTA

He is a practicing lawyer, a faculty member of the University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB), the director of the UPLB Human Resources Development Office, and the chairperson of the UPLB Bids and Awards Committee. He is a consultant for various domestic corporations and companies and a regular provider of technical assistance in the fields of gender and development (GAD), women and children’s rights, human rights, and other relevant laws. He owns the Laguna-based Peralta Law Offices and is an author of various criminology and GEC books published by Rex Book Store, Inc.

HERALD IAN C. GUIWA

He is an assistant professor at the Department of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences at the University of the Philippines-Los Baños. He earned his BA and MA in History from the University of the Philippines-Diliman. His research interests include the Filipino-American War, Local History, Rizal Studies, and Memory Studies. He is a coauthor of A Course Module for the Life, Works, and Writings of Jose Rizal published by Rex Book Store, Inc. in 2019.

EUGENE RAYMOND P. CRUDO

He is an assistant professor at the Department of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences of the University of the Philippines-Los Baños. He finished his undergraduate degree in Industrial Design under the College of Fine Arts, and his master’s degree in History under the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy at the University of the Philippines-Diliman. He handles courses on Philippine History and Rizal. He is one of the authors of A Course Module for the Life, Works, and Writings of Jose Rizal for tertiary students, published in 2019 by Rex Book Store, Inc.
