Assessment in Learning 1 reflects assessment of, as, and for learning using the conventional approach. It explains the whys, whats, and hows of high-quality pen- and-paper tests as tools for assessing learning. It helps future teachers learn how to collect, organize, interpret, utilize, and communicate assessment results to relevant stakeholders. Lessons in the book are designed to aid future teachers in identifying important learning outcomes that should be targeted in the course, which are reflections of the outcomes defined in the Policies, Standards, and Guidelines (PSGs) for teacher education set by the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST), and the competencies required from every assessor of learning. It provides a repertoire of techniques and tools that promote and assess the holistic development of learners and their 21st century skills. ABOUT THE AUTHOR-COORDINATOR
DR. MARILYN UBIÑA-BALAGTAS
She is a university professor and the Dean of the College of Flexible Learning and ePNU at the Philippine Normal University, the president of the Philippine Educational Measurement and Evaluation Association (PEMEA), and an adviser of PATEF-UPDATE. She is also a member of the following organizations: the American Educational Researchers Association (AERA), the International Association on Educational Assessment (IAEA), the National Council of Measurement in Education (NCME), the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP), and Pi Lambda Theta (PLT). She earned her doctorate degree in research and evaluation at the University of the Philippines. She has been trained in curriculum, evaluation, and research in Malaysia, Australia, and Poland. Dr. Ubina-Balagtas is also a recipient of various academic and leadership awards and scholarships; a researcher, writer, leader, and resource person; and a consultant in educational assessment and research in different agencies, institutions, and organizations in the Philippines and abroad.
ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Dr. Adonis P. David is the director of the Graduate Research Office at the Philippine Normal University. His teaching expertise is in educational research methods. He published research papers in journals accredited by the Commission on Higher Education and indexed in SCOPUS and the Web of Science. He served as editor-in-chief of The Educational Measurement and Evaluation Review, the official journal of the Philippine Educational Measurement and Evaluation Association. He is a registered guidance counselor (Top 2 in the 2008 board examination). He was educated at De La Salle University (Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Psychology), the University of Santo Tomas (Master of Arts in Guidance and Counseling), and Far Eastern University (Bachelor of Science in Psychology). DR. EVANGELINE F. GOLLA
She is the president of Pi Lambda Theta Philippine Area Chapter, an international society of women educators. She served the Philippine Normal University for 41 years in various capacities, from instructor to vice president for planning, research, and extension. She led projects in science and mathematics education, ICT, and assessment at the institutional, national, and international levels, including the Teacher Education and Development Study in Mathematics of the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement. Dr. Golla has coauthored books and journals in mathematics education, research, and statistics. She obtained her doctorate degree in research and evaluation at the University of the Philippines. She was a recipient of awards and scholarships from the Regional Centre for Education in Science and Mathematics (RECSAM) in Malaysia and from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in Germany.
