This module aims to equip elementary art teachers with both the whys and hows of conducting engaging, effective, and fun art classes in a formal or informal classroom setting. This module will examine and discuss the K to 12 Art curriculum, instructional planning, teaching strategies, and art appreciation and assessment. Written for aspiring art teachers, this module explains how to choose appropriate activities, plan effectively, and ultimately enjoy the process of teaching Art in the classroom despite limited resources. The authors hope that this module will help enlighten teachers about the process of art creation and self-expression and that they will pass them on to their students. ABOUT THE AUTHORS
PRECIOUS JEWEL GAMBOA TIZON
Teacher Precious is an inclusive and adaptive art teacher who encourages positive change in people’s lives through art. She advocated art for learning, enjoyment, and authentic self-expression in schools, organizations, and free online workshops all over the Philippines in the past decade. She obtained her background in art education from the Nara University of Education in Japan. She is a Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) topnotcher and studied Secondary Education (SPED) and Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines-Diliman. Teacher Precious aspires to improve the quality of art education in the Philippines by empowering teachers, parents, and children of all abilities through art.
EIGEN JOHN T. IGNACIO
He is an assistant professor at the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), where he teaches computer literacy, computer programming, and multimedia production courses under the College of Education and its integrated laboratory school. Also, a Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) topnotcher, he holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and a master’s degree in curriculum studies, both from the University of the Philippines-Diliman. His research interests include curriculum innovations and the use of technology in education. As of the publication of this module, he is working on a doctorate in curriculum and instruction at the Philippine Normal University in Manila.
ABOUT THE COORDINATOR
He is an associate professor at the College of Human Ecology and the Graduate School of the University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB). He finished his Master of Arts in Education and Doctor of Philosophy in Education major in Curriculum Studies at UP-Diliman. He also completed his Master of Education in Curriculum Development at Ehime University in Japan. He received the Academic Excellence Award from the UP College of Education for obtaining the highest general weighted average for his doctorate studies. He also received the prestigious Pi Gamma Mu Award for Academic Excellence in Social Sciences and is a Phi Kappa Phi International Honor Society member. GREG TABIOS PAWILEN
