Economic Development
The field of development economics examines the application of microeconomic and macroeconomic concepts to the growth of a developing country. It focuses on the socioeconomic issues of poverty, the standard of living, agriculture, rural development, industrialization, labor markets, financial systems, taxation, and global trade. It also covers foreign direct investments, foreign aid and remittances, education, health, cooperatives, social enterprise development, and peacekeeping. The basic features of the first edition of this textbook are the theories and the evaluating rationalities of the principles to be used ultimately as a basis of policymaking, whether in the private or public sector. This textbook highlights the fundamental economic development issues as a precursor to higher economics or policymaking decisions, notwithstanding the interrelationships of local concerns in the economy and the international market. The industries that impact economic development, such as agriculture, construction, manufacturing, mining, public administration, services, transport, and utilities, are discussed throughout the textbook.
