It has been lovely to welcome students back to school after the half term break. I would like to apologise for the delay returning after we were forced to close the school on Tuesday due to issues with the water supply.
I would like to thank all the parents and carers who attended the Year 9 Options Information Evening before half term. I hope that this was useful and helped you to discuss GCSE choices and future career aspirations with your child over half term. Our Year 11 and Year 13 students are now coming to the end of their courses. This week Year 13 have been completing their final mocks before their A level examinations in the summer. Year 11 students have also been involved in assessments in Music and Food Technology and our Art students have submitted their coursework portfolios for assessment. On Tuesday our Year 10 Textile students visited the V&A to see the sold out Chanel exhibition. Chanel is one of the set designers at GCSE so it was a great opportunity for the students to see the fabulous collection. I am looking forward to seeing many parents at tonight’s PTA Quiz, not only to raise funds for the school but also to have the opportunity to come together as a community. We are also reaching out to parents who may be able to support either a Sixth Form Careers event or our Silent Auction. Please see the end of the bulletin for more information.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING
The Charlie Waller Trust have just launched their new series of free mental health webinars, starting on Monday 4 March. They are presented by expert mental health trainers from CWT and guest speakers who come from a wide range of professions and expertise. The webinars explore practical, evidence-based information and strategies. Topics include: Helping your child understand their emotions and practical strategies to help, Spotting signs that new students are struggling settling in and how to support, Self harm - spotting the signs and providing support, Knowing when a friends struggling and understanding how to help, Spotting signs that a young person is struggling with their mental health. A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 13
I would like to start by welcoming back the Year 13 students. I hope they managed to get some rest, as well as revise for their mocks. Their attendance and punctuality to the first week of their mocks was excellent. Prior to half term and as part of their A Level in Drama, Year 13 students took part in a Monologue specialist visit, which I am certain they all found really beneficial. The Drama Department hired a specialist director/actor to work with the students on a one-to-one basis. Today, a group of A Level Drama students had the opportunity to attend Hampton School where they had a guided tour of the Hammond Theatre. The purpose of this trip is to ensure that our students learn the technical language they can then apply to their written work in their upcoming Summer exams. Also before half term, Year 13 students attended a talk from Mr Ubhi about his career in investment banking. This was a fantastic talk for anyone who contemplates pursuing a career in business and specifically finance, as he provided tips for applying that you wouldn’t find on any careers website. This talk also enabled students to experience the stock market. Finally, in preparation for their exams, all A Level MFL students have now already completed their oral mock exams. I am certain that they all found the experience extremely useful and the feedback they have received really constructive. I would like to finish by wishing all Year 13 students the best of luck for next week’s exams, which will conclude their last set of mocks before the public exams commence. If there are any issues regarding next week’s exams, students need to liaise directly with Ms Fong, our Exams Officer.

Never let me go by Kazuo Ishiguro
Never let me go is a suspenseful and absorbing science fiction novel and coming of age story which follows three friends through their unusual childhood. As secrets surrounding their time at the boarding school Hailsham and lives ahead begin to unfold the novel explores the idea of what it is to have a soul and the innate need to hold onto things lost. It’s a sorrowful and complex novel which criticises the extents of exploitation and the moral implications while debating with the blurred line between right and wrong. It’s a very short yet deeply thought provoking novel which I would highly recommend to anyone looking to read something full of love, identity and friendship but with a disturbing yet crucial message which will leave you changed.

APPRENTICESHIP FOCUS EVENT - SUPPORT NEEDED
As part of our Sixth Form Careers Insight, we have organised an Apprenticeship Focus Event for our Year 12 students on Tuesday 30 April. This event will help our students explore options and gain insights into apprenticeship pathways into different industries.
To make this event successful we are looking for companies who run apprenticeship schemes who can join us for the event and talk to students informally in small groups.
