By Kids For Kids: Summer 2025 Reading List FROM PINE CREST ES STUDENTS, GRADES 3-5; INTRODUCTION BY ELLEN HOLDER This year, my students and I explored a wide range of stories, made possible by the diverse and thoughtfully curated collection in our el- ementary school library. As the librarian for a middle-grade library VHUYLQJJUDGHVWKURXJK,FRQVLGHULWERWKDSULYLOHJHDQGDUHVSRQ - VLELOLW\WREXLOGDFROOHFWLRQWKDWUHÀHFWVP\VWXGHQWV¶LGHQWLWLHVKRQ - ors their interests, and expands their minds and imaginations. ,¶YHVHHQ¿UVWKDQGWKHWUDQVIRUPDWLYHSRZHURIUHSUHVHQWDWLRQ,VHH LWLQWKHMR\RQDVWXGHQW¶VIDFHZKHQVKHUHWXUQVDERRNDQGDVNV³'R \RXKDYHPRUHOLNHWKLV"´²NQRZLQJVKHPHDQVVWRULHVZLWKFKDUDFWHUV who look like her. I see it in the eyes of a student spending his lunch time in the library as he fasts for Ramadan who lights up at a display of books honoring the holiday. I see it when students race to grab bi- RJUDSKLHVRIVRFFHUVWDU/LRQHO0HVVLRUHDJHUO\VHDUFKIRUERRNVDERXW the countries their parents are from. Today, the freedom to read is under threat in many parts of our FRXQWU\ ² LQFOXGLQJ ULJKW KHUH LQ 0DU\ODQG 6FKRRO DQG FODVVURRP OLEUDULHV DUH EHLQJ VFUXWLQL]HG DQG FHUWL¿HG OLEUDULDQV DUH EHLQJ FXW IURPVFKRROEXGJHWVLQDQH̆ RUWWRFRQWUROVWXGHQWV¶DFFHVVWRERRNV 5HSUHVHQWDWLRQPDWWHUV)XQGLQJIRUOLEUDULHVDQGWKHLUVWD̆ PXVW EH SURWHFWHG $QG DFFHVV WR ERRNV WKDW UHÀHFW DQG UHVSHFW RXU VWX - GHQWV¶H[SHULHQFHVLVQRWMXVWSRZHUIXO²LW¶VHVVHQWLDO +HUHDUHRXUOLVWVRIWRSUHDGVRUJDQL]HGE\FDWHJRU\,WZDVGL̇ - cult to narrow down.
