The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), using guidance and data from the Plastics Pipe Institute, Inc. (PPI), released an update to the NEMA Standards Publication TC 7-2016, Smooth-Wall Coilable Electrical Polyethylene Conduit. The document supersedes NEMA Publication TC 7-2005. The standard covers several wall types of high- density polyethylene (HDPE) conduit used to provide a protective raceway for electrical and communication cables buried underground or encased in concrete. Benefits, according to the PPI, include availability in long lengths without joints, high strength, flexibility, proven reliability, and installation toughness.
Simpson Strong-Tie said its new SET-3G high- strength anchoring adhesive is formulated to yield superior performance in threaded rod anchor and rebar dowel installations. The two-component, one-to-one-ratio, epoxy-based anchoring adhesive formula dispenses in a uniform gray color to match surrounding concrete surfaces, and can be installed in downward, horizontal, vertical, and overhead orientations. SET-3G adhesive is designed for dry or water-saturated use conditions with temperatures anywhere between -40°F (-40°C) and 176°F (80°C). It is tested in accordance with ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria for AdhesiveAnchors in Concrete Elements (AC308) and ACI 355.4 for use in cracked and uncracked normal-weight and lightweight concrete.
Smith-Midland Corporation is producing four sound wall projects in Loudoun County, Va. The 48,000-square-foot Route 606 job will be manufactured using SoftSound sound-absorptive precast technology. The faces of the panels will be imprinted with a dogwood flower pattern using form liners. SoftSound is a proprietary material molded and compressed to meet the desired technical and aesthetic requirements. It combines specialized mineralized wood-chip aggregate using cement as a binder in a specific and exacting manufacturing process. Once installed, SoftSound surpasses other products for sound absorption, durability, strength, and moldability, according to the manufacturer.
