SPACE PL ANNING T I PS • Effective storage brings order to the space, if the entryway has no closet, hang hooks on the walls for coats and hats, and provide bins or baskets for wet boots and umbrellas. • Designate a space to set packages, mail, and keys, such as on a hall table or credenza, a console table or sideboard can also work well. • If the client has a no-shoes policy indoors, provide a bench or ottoman for guests to sit on as they remove their outdoor footwear. • If the client does not have an entryway closet, recommend hooks or shelves where guests can hang coats and bags. • Choose furniture that can provide multiple solutions, make sure to recommend drawers to make the most of a small space. • Where no defined entry to a room exists, you can create a sense of a foyer with a bench and a small pedestal table. • Your client may want to position painter’s tape in the room itself, representing each furniture piece in actual size, to see how the layout will impact the traffic flow.
