HOW TO: SELECT ING A SOFA Even though a sofa is an integral component to any living room design, there are a few variables to consider when selecting seating. Size, type, and configuration of seating should be considered when helping a customer select the perfect piece. T YPES OF SOFAS
SOFA Typically seating 2–3 people, the sofa is offered in a variety of sizes and styles and is the most common form of living room seating.
LOVESEAT Typically used as a companion to a larger sofa, this smaller 2 seat sofa may also be used on it’s own in small spaces.
SE T T E E Is a piece of furniture used for seating 2–3 people in the form of a bench with armrests. Also known as the “fainting sofa”, many settees are backless or only have a partial back. SOF E T T E This seating option is typically less than 5 feet long and seats 1-2 people. Easy proportions allow the sofette to work almost anywhere, including bedrooms.
T I PS Configuration can vary greatly between collections. Be sure to assess the customer’s preferences to identify the perfect piece. Here are a few things to consider: Does the customer prefer the continuous line formed by a single bench cushion? Or are they drawn to a sofa with 2 or 3 individual seat cushions? Does the customer prefer the “sinking in” feel of a down blend cushion or the resilient feel of a poly fill cushion? Is the customer drawn to loose back cushions or do they prefer the tailored look of a tufted cushion that is integrated to the frame?
