READING FOCUS: This month’s selection offers fourth graders the opportunity to explore a story centered around a memorable character, a child who may be like someone they know. As they read, students can think about what they learn about the main character from what she does and says.

Yon ti fi yo rele Kati/A Girl Named Kati Written by Jean Fuedo Quince & illustrated by Audeva Joseph Kati cracks jokes with her friends, goes to school in a uniform, does chores around the house, and loves her family. But her muse is her little brother, Jean. She loves how close they are and how comfortable they are together. This inspires Kati to focus on her dream of writing. A Girl Named Kati is a sweet story about the importance of family.

READING FOCUS: This month, fifth graders can think about how an author structures a book to tell an interesting story. As they read, students can think about how each chapter progresses the story, adds new information, and builds toward a resolution.
