Lety Muñoz is excited to begin summer camp at the Furry Friends Animal Shelter. When the shelter needs a volunteer to write animal profiles, Lety jumps at the chance—but so does a boy named Hunter. To settle things, Hunter and Lety hold a competition to determine who gets to be the official shelter scribe. But Lety worries that the competition will ruin her chances to adopt Spike. This entertaining novel teaches fifth graders how to set goals and work with others to succeed.

Opal and her new friend, Gloria, host a party for the town, but a colossal summer storm interrupts the fun and scares away Winn-Dixie. Opal must find a way to venture through the storm to find her missing pet. This modern classic celebrates friendship.
