HEADTEACHER’S MESSAGE
KEY SCHOOL DATES
This week we were so pleased to finally welcome Ofsted inspectors into school so that we could showcase our fabulous students and staff. As soon as the report is published we will share this with our school community but this won’t be until after half term. In the meantime I would like to thank

everyone for their contributions to the process.
Sixth Form Open Evening - 24 October
On Monday during assembly I told the students that this was their opportunity to shine and I am delighted to say that they truly did, behaving impeccably and giving thoughtful and articulate responses to the team of inspectors. Staff throughout school worked incredibly hard to ensure a calm and focused learning environment. Thank you to all the parents who sent supportive messages into school and those that completed the survey. I am aware that some parents were frustrated by the short time frame for the survey, unfortunately the deadline is set by Ofsted and not something the school has any control over; we too were only notified of the inspection on Monday. We had a number of trips and events in school this week with University professors from King’s College and Arts University Plymouth coming in to meet Sixth Form students, as well as trips to the London Coliseum to see the critically acclaimed Jonathan Miller production of La Boheme and another to The National Theatre to see The Other Place, a modern retelling of Antigone. On Wednesday evening we held a Live Lounge which gave our own students an opportunity to perform and showcase their musical talents.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING
There are two awareness months in October that are particularly important for our students. ADHD Awareness Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Next Friday, Year 7 will be invited to wear pink to raise money for breast cancer research and support. Now is a really good time to talk about self-examination and we will be sharing the short videos below with stu- dents during tutor time next week: Know your breast and Breast cancer in men. Girls with undiagnosed ADHD may present with symptoms such as organisational difficulties, anxiety or difficulty regulating their emotions, less obvious indicators than the disruptive behaviour that many associate with ADHD. This can impact on their relationships at home and at school. Young Minds have more information about ADHD and mental health and this video offers some guidance about how ADHD can affect parent-child relationships.

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 9
I firstly want to congratulate Year 9 for being wonderful ambassadors of the school during our recent Ofsted inspection. They were polite, courteous and engaged.
On Friday students wore red for charity, ‘Show Racism the Red Card’. This is an amazing charity which aims to educate by challenging misconceptions, stereotypes and negative attitudes in society. It was wonderful to see so many of our students supporting this worthy cause, a voluntary contribution for the charity can be made via ParentPay.
We are drawing to the end of half term and the current Epraise totals are as follows: 1. 9SSR- 560 points 2. 9EMU -558 points 3. 9PWA- 501 points
Individuals who are topping the Year 9 leaderboard are: Ella R-J, Olivia M and Ivy M.
As we approach the end of term, we are aware students are beginning to feel tired, however it is important that they are supported to complete all homework tasks and are present in school and on time each day. There are homework clubs after school as well as a maths specific session, Stuck Shop on Thursday lunchtimes for those who have questions or need some extra support. Half-term will be here soon when we can all have a well earned break! Students are encouraged to get involved in extracurricular activities, as such we wanted to highlight an incredible opportunity for students to get involved with the London Youth Games as a Team Member. Applications are open for passionate 14-24 year olds to represent their borough - see poster on page 4 for more information.
MRS MORTIMER, HEAD OF YEAR 9
BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ - Margaret Atwood This book follows the Handmaid of a wealthy family as she struggles to fight for her rights in a dystopian society where women are used as breeding machines. While those in charge use threats to suppress the desires of the Handmaids, nothing can stop the desire she has to reunite with her daughter who was cruelly taken away as the repressive state was gaining power. Atwood combines fictional aspects with real world issues such as oppression of women and power divide to create a story that will make you simultaneously devastated and filled with motivation to ensure that we continue to fight for what all women everywhere deserve the right to choose. ~ Isla

Year 7 Touch Rugby vs Turing House
Won 20-5
Last week we had a great success in our Year 7s first touch rugby match of the year, winning 20-5 playing against Turing House. They all played fantastically, with player of the match going to Pamela L in 7FLY. Our netball teams had mixed success in their matches against St Richard Reynolds on Thursday, with our Year 9s winning their match 13-9. The girls played a great game, with special mention to Immy R-T and Eriynn S for being named players of the match for attack and defense respectively. Our Year 10/11 Team also played against St Richard Reynolds, this was a close match, with players of the match named as Matilda S for attack and Elodie F for defence, but ultimately lost to the opposing side.
All our players should be proud of their efforts and teamwork.
