Hearing Center of Long Island - January 2018

Continuing Care

New Year’s resolutions are meant to improve one’s quality of life. But in the midst of goals to shed a few pounds, start exercising regularly, or read more books, one thing often gets overlooked — maintaining optimum hearing and the ability to communicate effectively. In addition to your regular resolutions, I would encourage all my patients to make their hearing a top priority in the coming year. Luckily, our complimentary continuing care services make that easy! If you use hearing aids, you should know that many typical breakdowns and problems can be easily prevented with regular professional maintenance. With a visit to Hearing Center of Long Island about every 6 months (completely free of charge), we can address issues with your hearing aids before they become a more serious problem and ensure that your hearing and communication abilities are optimized for the long term. Our continuing care services include the following steps. • Otoscopic evaluation. We’ll check the health of your ear canals and inspect them

for excessive ear wax. We use video otoscopes that allow you to see inside your own ear canals. • Hearing aid inspection and cleaning. Professional inspection and cleaning of each part of the hearing aid — from microphone and amplifiers to battery compartments and wax filters — which helps optimize hearing aid performance and prevent unnecessary breakdowns. We use special vacuum and centrifuge equipment for deep cleaning and can replace many hearing aid parts in the office. • Evaluation of hearing aid function. Most hearing aids record dynamic information about how they’re working and being used. We can review this information, and your audiologist can use this data to make adjustments to maximize performance. • Addressing patient concerns and patient counseling. Regular visits provide the ideal opportunity to ask our experienced audiologists questions, express concerns, or explain problems that we can solve.

Based on what we learn during your continuing care visits, we can provide other services at no charge, like hearing screenings or demonstrations of new hearing technology. We offer our continuing care services free of charge because we have found that regular service like this is vital to maintaining long-term optimum hearing. This year, don’t put your hearing on the back burner. Be sure you have your free continuing care visits scheduled every six months, and stay in control of your hearing and communication abilities!
