Person Specification

This lists the requirements needed in order to perform the job effectively. Candidates will be shortlisted based on the extent to which they meet these requirements.

Qualifications • A degree or recognised qualification in a Building, Architecture, Engineering, Construction or Project Management related discipline. • Member of a relevant professional body. • Professional/leadership CPD/further training/ development. Experience/Knowledge • Significant experience in the delivery of multi- million pound, multiple project capital building programmes including new build, building extension and refurbishment in busy operational sites. • Broad and deep knowledge and understanding of planning policy and regulations, building regulations, contract law, construction management, appointment and management of external design teams. • Experience of leading complex and large-scale new build and major refurbishment projects in research intensive environments such as medical & life sciences. • Possessing the capability, credibility and experience to lead a team of experienced project management professionals.

• Demonstrable experience of building credibility and influence with senior internal/external stakeholders. • To have broad experience of development of large organisational estate strategies and specifically development of master planning. • Experience in senior programme/project management within a similar diverse portfolio. • Experience of leading the embryonic stages of projects including elements such as business case development, feasibility and option appraisal, strategic brief development and concept design. • A detailed understanding of design and construction procurement options and ability to work with the University’s Procurement team to ensure compliance. Experience in different procurement strategies and construction contracts/consultant appointments. • Significant experience in reviewing and managing risk and implementing systems to achieve effective mitigation action. • Experience of leading, developing, managing and motivating a diverse team of Project Managers and project support. • Evidence of successful project handovers to operational Estates teams.

• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to be an articulate and effective advocate to establish strong working relationships with a diverse range of partners internally and externally. Excellent active listening skills. • Demonstrate passion, enthusiasm and leadership for this senior role. • Excellent impact, matrix management and influencing skills.
