The Goddesses of Prophecy, the Fates, or in Old Norse mythology, the Norns, were female beings ruling over the destiny of gods and mankind. They spin the threads of fate at the foot of Yggdrasil, the World Tree. In Snorri Sturluson’s interpretation they draw water from the Well of Fate and pour the well water over Yggdrasil so that the branches avoid rot. While not all of my work has elements of mythology weaved into my brushstrokes, these two pieces Urd of the Norns and Skuld of the Norns encapsulate my awe at the beauty of Iceland, the stories of the land, and its cultural history. I created these two pieces as I felt my past and future fighting one another and imagined the faces of Urd and Skuld laughing at me as I struggled to choose what path to take. I wondered if they laughed because destiny is predetermined, or if because the notion of fate is all a big joke. E V E V E G G L E S T ON F A C U L T Y

Ivy Tech is important to me because it is a place for change and new horizons. The longer I am involved with Ivy Tech the more amazed I become at the wealth of opportunity and resources offered to our students. Ivy Tech creates an environment where, I believe, all feel welcome - readily accepted wherever they are in life and ready to pursue new goals with fervor and tenacity. I am grateful and honored to be a part of this strong and open community.
