A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 8

We have had another great week in Year 8. The theme of the week has been Kindness. During form time the students have been discussing the impact that kindness can have on themselves and others across our school community. I am pleased to say that Year 8 have been incredibly supportive of one another this term and this activity has highlighted how kindness is important to them. This week the students have been writing thoughtful appreciation cards to teachers and staff across the school - next week they will be taking part in a Kindness Bingo Challenge! Our top three epraise forms this week are as follows - 8EDA with 497 points, 8PUN with points, 8PIR with 453 points, a huge well-done to those individuals who have achieved epraise in this term - keep up the great work! We had a very successful Wear Red Day today in support of charity, ‘Show Racism the Red Card’. It was great to see our Year 8’s supporting this day to raise money and awareness for a very important cause. A voluntary contribution for the charity can be made via ParentPay. We want to end this half term positively and so we would ask for your support in checking in with your child about how they feel this term has gone so far and if there is anything they would like to work on moving forward.

Looking forward to another great week!

MRS LYDDON, HEAD OF YEAR 8

BOOK OF THE MONTH

Northern Lights by Philip Pullman

The first book of a majestic fantasy trilogy, Northern Lights introduces readers to the bold heroine, Lyra. Set in a sideways world, where everyone has a daemon in animal form, the story opens with the ominous news that children are going missing, which begins Lyra’s quest for knowledge.

This is a magical book, which is wonderful to read together with children, perhaps paired with the relatively recent BBC adaptation.
