Entry Requirements: A GCSE grade 6 or above in either English Literature or a humanities subject, and a grade 5 or above in Science.

What will I study? The first year comprises of two components:

Am I suited to this course? You would be well suited to studying Psychology at A level if you: — have an analytical mind and enjoy exploring different reasons for human behaviour — can engage in critical thinking and draw conclusions from a variety of sources — enjoy debates and discussions to explore competing arguments — enjoy independent work and small group work — are interested in a career in Psychology What other subjects does it complement? Psychology complements a number of other subjects, in particular Business Studies, Sociology and Science. Where can it lead? Studying Psychology can lead to a career directly related to the subject, for example, any career working with people, such as counselling, care work, police, law, teaching, social work or any of the social sciences. The course is recognised as useful preparation for many university courses due to the breadth of the syllabus as well as the analytical skills students will develop.

Paper 1: Approaches in Psychology Students will study five approaches to explaining human behaviour: Behaviourist

Biological Cognitive Psychodynamic Positive

Paper 2: Research Methods Students will learn the key features of psychological research, including designing their own studies, collecting and analysing data and presenting findings in a psychological report. Additionally, in Year 2, students will study for Paper 3, with in-depth study of three behaviours/topics: Criminal behaviour, Addictive behaviour and Schizophrenia.
