A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 10

This week has been very busy in school as we had OFSTED visitors inspecting our school. Pupils, parents and car- ers were informed earlier in the week and we want to congratulate our students for their wonderful behaviour around the school and in lessons. Year 10 have been working really hard in their lessons and it has been excellent to see them starting KS4 in such a positive way.

This week we also had our house assemblies where we reflected on all the house and charity events that went on in school last year, and what we can look forward to this year.

Today we held a non-uniform day, where students were encouraged to wear red in support of the Charity ‘Show Racism the Red Card.’This charity works extensively across the UK to raise awareness and challenge racism in society. Donations support the charity in many ways, such as funding grassroots football programmes, and the delivery of educational workshops to young people in disadvantaged areas. Donations for this can be made via Parentpay.

Congratulation to 10PGO for being in the lead with the most epraise points. They are closely followed by 10SPI. Well done!

The Globe Players are coming in to perform An Inspector Calls to our Year 10 students on Thursday 24th October as they have been studying this text in English lessons. Tickets can be paid for via Parentpay at a cost of £4 each, this cost is already funded for Pupil premium students. Students are encouraged to get involved in extracurricular activities, as such we wanted to highlight an incredi- ble opportunity for students to get involved with the London Youth Games as a Team Member. Applications are open for passionate 14-24 year olds to represent their borough - see poster on page 4 for more information.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ - Margaret Atwood This book follows the Handmaid of a wealthy family as she struggles to fight for her rights in a dystopian society where women are used as breeding machines. While those in charge use threats to suppress the desires of the Handmaids, nothing can stop the desire she has to reunite with her daughter who was cruelly taken away as the repressive state was gaining power. Atwood combines fictional aspects with real world issues such as oppression of women and power divide to create a story that will make you simultaneously devastated and filled with motivation to ensure that we continue to fight for what all women everywhere deserve the right to choose. ~ Isla
