Through Housing Choices Australia’s strong relationships with state governments, and our continued proven capability and capacity as one of Australia’s leading community housing providers, we have benefitted in being awarded substantial funding to continue to maintain both our owned and managed homes to a high standard while providing greater comfort for residents and sustainability improvements. In Victoria, Housing Choices was awarded the Community Housing Maintenance Stimulus Package in 2021, with funding of over $4 million for works across 420 homes owned by Housing Choices and Homes Victoria. During the last 12 months, our delivery team and contractors faced many COVID related challenges and interruptions, yet despite this, completed works across 217 homes worth $3.18 million, with the balance scheduled for completion by end of September 2022.
As part of the stimulus package, many of the works undertaken contributed to environmental sustainability objectives, including 151 solar systems, 120 energy efficient air conditioning systems, and 60 energy efficient hot water heat pump systems. In addition to the Maintenance Stimulus Package, Solar Victoria provided supplementary funding of $526,986 to Housing Choices, which assisted with providing an additional 309 solar systems, this project is also nearing completion. Our West Coast Team also received significant funding, and as part of the WA Government’s Social Housing Economic Recovery Package (SHERP), HCWA was awarded $6.75 million in February 2022. This funding will be allocated across three developments, providing essential maintenance and property upgrades across 363 metropolitan and regional homes under December 2024.
