Robbie thrives with support
Robbie has lived at his Clifton Hill home for nearly ten years, after moving into the Mind Australia supported accommodation in late 2012. Prior to Housing Choices, Robbie was living in a range of boarding houses, backpacker hostels, and at the Salvation Army. “I know my neighbours well. Everyone is friends here.” When one of the Mind Australia staff pointed out to Robbie the ‘You’ve Got Talent’ quest in the Home Stories resident newsletter, he was excited to share his passion for flamenco guitar with the Housing Choices community. “I’ve been playing flamenco guitar for ten-years, I started around the same time I moved in here. My eldest brother used to play it when I was younger.” He enjoys sharing his musical talent with his neighbours who he sometimes plays for when he isn’t working at Ability Works Australia. Robbie’s stage name is Blue Rose, and he often plays at open mic nights at the Elwood Lounge and other venues across Melbourne. Robbie has even written an original song which is also titled Blue Rose, a beautiful flamenco piece filled with emotion encapsulating the spirit of Flamenco. His Clifton Hill home makes it easier for Robbie to busk at Darling Gardens and provides him with the stability he so often lacked prior to being settled with Housing Choices.
I LOVE IT. IT’S MY FIRST HOME AWAY FROM HOME.
