Staying healthy is not just a goal; it is a way of life — a commitment to nurturing our bodies, minds, and spirits to achieve a state of well-being and vitality. In a world filled with endless distractions and temptations, prioritizing our health becomes paramount, serving as the foundation for building our lives. Whether through mindful nutrition, regular exercise, adequate rest, or nurturing our mental and emotional health, the journey to wellness is as unique as each individual. With dedication and intentionality, we can unlock our full potential and thrive in every aspect of life. One valuable lesson I have learned on my wellness journey is that sugar can be a real enemy when it comes to staying healthy. I consciously prioritize a nutritious diet, avoiding excessive sugar intake. In addition to monitoring my sugar consumption, I am mindful of my carb intake, keeping an eye on foods like rice and potatoes. Another strategy I have adopted is to avoid frequent eating. Despite what some media suggests about eating every few hours, limiting myself to one or two meals daily has always been beneficial.

It is essential to approach fasting cautiously, ensuring adequate hydration and nourishment during eating periods and consulting with a health care professional if considering extended fasting. Fasting is a powerful tool for optimal health and longevity, offering a pathway to rejuvenation and vitality for the mind, body, and spirit. After recently returning from a family vacation, I acknowledge that my health might have taken a bit of a hit, but that’s what vacations are for! However, I am committed to returning to a healthier track now that I am home. While I strive to accomplish these goals, I also recognize the importance of having balance and moderation in life. Indulging in my favorite foods can bring me joy and satisfaction, but excessive intake can lead to negative health effects. Balancing our meals with a variety of nutrients ensures that our bodies receive the essential vitamins, minerals, and energy they need to function optimally. Additionally, moderation helps prevent overeating and promotes better habits, fostering a healthier relationship with food.
My motivation to lead a healthy lifestyle stems from my family. With two little ones relying on me, as well as the support and inspiration
from my wife, staying healthy is not just a personal goal — it’s a responsibility. As we celebrate World Health Day, I remain determined to promote a healthy lifestyle for myself and my family’s well-being.
Embracing intermittent fasting, whether 24-hour or 48-hour, has also proved incredibly helpful for my health journey. Fasting allows for autophagy, a natural process in which the body cleanses and renews cells, aiding in weight loss and overall health. Fasting has emerged as a powerful tool for maintaining health and well-being, offering numerous benefits beyond weight management. During fasting, the body efficiently breaks down and recycles damaged cells, promoting cellular repair and regeneration. Intermittent fasting, in particular, has gained popularity for its flexibility and ease of implementation, allowing individuals to tailor their fasting schedules to suit their lifestyles.

The European football pitch is often the scene of bitter rivalries and even violence between fans, but spectators at a 2022 match between the Spanish professional football clubs FC Barcelona and Cadiz CF witnessed an entirely different kind of drama. The match was suspended when a spectator in the end zone collapsed. As medical staff rushed to help, the goalie for Cadiz broke from his position, raced to his team’s dugout, retrieved a medical kit with a defibrillator, sprinted back toward the scene, and tossed the kit to the medics. Thanks in part to the defibrillator, which medics used to resuscitate the victim, he was safely transferred to a nearby hospital.

The coach of the rival team praised Ledesma’s quick thinking. “We’re talking about a human life, and any human life is above a soccer game,” Barcelona’s coach, Xavi Hernandez, was quoted as saying. Only after the spectator was revived and en route to the hospital did the teams agree to resume the game. Although Cadiz lost the match 4-0, Cadiz fans went home with a different kind of win — global recognition of their goalkeeper’s good deed. Video of Ledesma’s quick response quickly went viral, earning “massive respect” from commenters and worldwide plaudits for heroism.

For the grilled steak: • 2 lbs steak (flank, sirloin, or skirt steak) • 2 tbsp olive oil • Salt and pepper, to taste
For the chimichurri sauce: • 1 cup fresh parsley, chopped • 2 cloves garlic, minced
• Juice of 1 lemon • 2 tbsp olive oil
• 1 tsp red pepper flakes • Salt and pepper, to taste
Directions 1. Preheat grill to medium-high heat. 2. Rub the steak with the olive oil, salt, and pepper. 3. Grill the steak for 4–5 minutes per side or until it reaches desired doneness. 4. Meanwhile, make the chimichurri sauce: In a small bowl, mix together the parsley, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, red pepper flakes, and salt and pepper. 5. Let the steak rest for 5 minutes before slicing. 6. Serve the steak with the chimichurri sauce and enjoy!
