Eat, Read & Be Merry By Gerry DeBenedetti Reading 'Riggers

➳ It is that time of the year again... Thanksgiving and Christmas and moaning and groaning about the incredible proximity of the new year. 2024 and we’re still here? Amazing! Whether the end of the year finds you too busy to read or gives you some downtime to rest and read, the books keep coming and Reading ‘Riggers continues to find excellent titles, subjects, and authors to keep you satisfied. Give yourself a Christmas present—a couch and a book, put yourself on/in them and be transported to another time, another place, another you. SAVE THE DATES DEC. 1 “Lei Aloha: Celebrating the Vibrant Flowers and Lei of Hawai‘i” by OCC members Meleana Estes & Jennifer Fiedler The authors will be present and are bringing books for you.

MAY 3 “The Uncharted Flight of Olivia West” by Sara Ackerman OCC member Sara Ackerman will make her third ap- pearance with her newest book, inspired by the Dole Air Race. Ackerman’s previous books have been set in WWII, with female protagonists, some plot crises, and a lile love. This book goes back to the earliest aempts in the 1920s to fly from the mainland to Hawai‘i. COMING SOON Books by or about Richard Kelley of the Outrigger Ho- tels, the diaries of Queen Lili‘uokalani, more from Susan Sco, and we’re trying to get two OCC member authors to promise us a date. Ideas are always welcome; leave your sugges ons at the Front Desk. Remember, books should have some rela onship with Hawai`i either by subject, author, etc. Please come 10 minutes early to pre-order lunch, we start promptly at 10 a.m. If you are bringing a guest, you can sign for them under your membership number. JAN. 5 “Char Siu” by Sco Kikkawa

This is his third tle in the further advenres of Frank Ishi- kawa, an HPD detec ve in the 1950s. Kikkawa is a federal inves gator (or spy, or FBI agent, or... he will neither confirm nor deny). We read Kikkawa’s earlier tles “Kona Winds” and “Red Dirt” in 2022.
