Bi-Monthly OmniSYS News You Can Use

VOL. 1, ISSUE 1 | NOVEMBER 2023

From the Desk of David Pope Chief Pharmacy Officer

We are excited to introduce a new bi-monthly XiConnect newsletter specially curated for our Pharmacy customers. In each edition, you can expect industry news, solution highlights, recent advocacy efforts and much more. We are seeing exciting shifts in the types of services pharmacies offer to their patients and the evolution of the associated business, operational, and community engagement strategies. There is significant

regulatory movement at the state and federal levels and a groundswell of support for pharmacies to provide and be reimbursed for new clinical services. In many communities, pharmacies are now able to submit claims to payors for office visits, hormonal contraceptives, and immunization reviews, to name a few. The bottom line is clinical services are a growing opportunity for pharmacies. Along with these new opportunities is an increase in complexity. Pharmacies are facing new operational challenges related to how they bill, document, and gather required prescriber information for those services. Pharmacies are even preparing to bill patients post-visit, allowing pharmacies to expand billing services to out-of-network plans. Our commitment to solving these issues for pharmacies, like yours, is unwavering. We look forward to working with you and your organization to navigate these evolving changes.

As we know, there is no mission without margin. While you and your teams are appropriately focused on patients’ access, equity, and outcomes, we, at OmniSYS, XiFin Pharmacy Solutions stand ready to help your organization achieve stronger finances and streamline operations — giving you THE POWER TO DO GOOD TM for more patients.

Until Next Time, David Pope

Employee Spotlight: Customer-focused Product Leader Collaborates with Pharmacists to Drive Innovation

Customer experience and service are at the fore- front of every decision I make at OmniSYS” — Ashley Keller, OmniSYS Product Manager

Ashley Keller is a dedicated product manager who uses customer insights to transform solutions at OmniSYS. She manages Strand-Rx, the OmniSYS billing-enabled EHR, and has helped bring valuable features to the market over the last four years. Strand-Rx empowers pharmacies to deliver clinical care, document those services, and get paid for them. Now, Keller is excited to introduce CareALERTS to pharmacy teams. CareALERTS is an intelligent data mining capability that notifies pharmacists, in near real-time and within their workflow, of relevant and timely clinical opportunities that may benefit their patient. This provides pharmacists the opportunity to discuss the availability of immunizations, medication therapy management, diabetes education, and other services that can close gaps in care and ultimately help the patient proactively manage their health. “CareALERTS is such a game-changer for our pharmacies,” Ashley Keller, OmniSYS product manager said. “Pharmacists are the most accessible and trusted health care providers in America. Pharmacy staff members are incredibly busy. The ability to receive an alert that is relevant and timely – in the pharmacy workflow – will make their lives much easier. I am privileged to work with a wonderful team who has made this solution possible.” Keller said connecting with OmniSYS customers gives her the foresight to develop features designed to help alleviate the pressure many pharmacies face. “Customer experience and service are at the forefront of every decision I make at OmniSYS,” she said. “It has been fun to innovate alongside our customers and build a new feature that solves problems they are experiencing around clinical decision-making, workflow, and efficiencies.” When she’s not pushing pharmacy care forward through her work at OmniSYS, Ashley said she enjoys embarking on fun-filled quests with her loved ones. “In my spare time, I like to spend time with my family. I have nine nieces and nephews, and they keep me BUSY,” she exclaimed. “We love to travel and explore new places. We are currently on an adventure to visit all the MLB ballparks. We are over one-third of the way complete.”

Coming Soon to Strand-Rx: CareALERTS TM Strand-Rx® is getting even better with the addition of CareALERTS . Strand-Rx is the industry’s first cloud- based, billing-enabled electronic health record (EHR) that empowers pharmacies to document and deliver care efficiently while billing for their services. CareALERTS is an intelligent data mining capability that notifies pharmacists, in near real-time and within their workflow, of relevant and timely clinical opportunities that may benefit their patients. This allows pharmacists to discuss the availability of immunizations, medication therapy management, diabetes education, and other services that can close gaps in care and ultimately help the patient proactively manage their health. Stay tuned for the official release date for CareALERTS – the new, highly anticipated feature in Strand-Rx.

Newly proposed legislation could extend pharmacists' important role in the healthcare ecosystem. The Pharmacy and Medically Underserved Areas Act, S.1491 , was recently introduced to the United States Senate and could codify pharmacists’ ability to provide services such as testing and treating certain illnesses, maintaining drug regimens, and more. Now is the time to start setting up your pharmacy’s test-and-treat program. The process can be challenging if you don’t understand how to start.

The Honorable Jodey Arrington, Chairman Committee on the Budget U.S. House of Representatives 204 Cannon House Office Building Washington, DC 20515 The Honorable Michael Burgess, Health Care Task Force Chair Committee on the Budget U.S. House of Representatives 204 Cannon House Office Building Washington, DC 20515

RE: House Budget Committee Health Care Task Force Request for Information

Dear Chairman Arrington and Representative Burgess, As a leading technology company providing medical billing, clinical workflow and documentation, and patient engagement solutions to more than half of our nation’s pharmacies, every day we see the immense value pharmacists can deliver as providers of accessible, affordable health care for millions of Americans. With nine in ten Americans living within five miles of a pharmacy , pharmacists play a vital front-line role in delivering prompt, essential services, especially to seniors and rural patients, to protect them from COVID-19 and other common infectious diseases. Where provider shortages are growing and care options are scarce, pharmacists can help bridge access gaps to deliver vaccines, treatment and other routine services. By conservative estimates, pharmacist interventions during the COVID-19 pandemic averted over 2 2 million deaths, over 17 million hospitalizations, and $900 billion in health care costs . Unfortunately, pharmacists continue to operate under a fragile framework of temporary authorities that were established during the COVID-19 pandemic. The end of the Public Health Emergency (PHE) for COVID-19 in May and uncertainty surrounding the future of the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness (PREP) Act threaten patient access to pharmacist care for millions of seniors. Congress can preserve seniors’ access to the essential care and services pharmacists provide and strengthen our nation’s public health response by enacting H R 1770, the Equitable Community Access to Pharmacist Services Act . This bipartisan legislation would create Medicare Part B direct reimbursement mechanisms for pharmacist services to protect seniors from the threat of infectious diseases, specifically for COVID-19 and flu (testing, treatment, and vaccination), strep throat (testing and treatment), and RSV (testing). This legislation does not interfere with the states’ ability to govern pharmacists’ scope of practice – it simply assures Medicare beneficiaries’ access to services that pharmacists are authorized by states to perform. Supporting pharmacists as providers of basic frontline care is not only sound policy, but also what America’s seniors overwhelmingly want. An opinion poll of seniors conducted last year found that 80 percent “want local pharmacy access to vaccines, testing and treatments for flu, strep or future pandemic infections”; and an even greater number (85 percent) said that “they want Congress to ensure older Americans have access to a broader array of pharmacist services,” including testing and vaccination. On behalf of the tens of thousands of pharmacists we support in serving millions of America’s seniors, we respectfully urge the House Budget Committee’s Health Care Task Force to include the Equitable Community Access to Pharmacist Services Act as one of the key solutions Congress can advance to address health care access and affordability. We thank you for your consideration and commend the Task Force for its efforts to improve the United States’ healthcare system. Sincerely, David Pope PharmD, CDE Chief Pharmacy Officer XiFin, Inc.
