Binghamton Baseball Shrine

This season marks the 31st year for the Binghamton Baseball Shrine committee. The special group was formed in 1993 by then-Binghamton Mets general manager R.C. Reuteman to recognize the rich baseball legacy of the Greater Binghamton Area. Reuteman was posthumously inducted into the shrine in 2016. This year’s class will be the 28th induction class for the Shrine. In order to be inducted into the Binghamton Baseball Shrine, an inductee must no longer be an active player and have accomplished at least one of the following: -Played for a Binghamton professional baseball team and performed in outstanding fashion or achieved success in Major League Baseball after playing in the Binghamton area -Born and/or raised in the Greater Binghamton Area and achieved success in Major League Baseball or a Binghamton professional team (i.e., Bingos, Crickets, Triplets, Mets, etc. The same general rules apply for non-playing members of the Shrine. Examples include George F. John- son, John H. Johnson, John Fox and Jerry Toman. On rare occasions the committee has the right to go outside the criteria to recog- nize a significant event in the Greater Binghamton Area.

Wearing the Jersey Over the course of 30 seasons, over 800 different players have worn a Binghamton Mets or Rumble Ponies jersey. Of those players, 345 also played in the Major Leagues. In the team’s history, 177 B-Mets/Ponies made their Big League debut with the New York Mets. Overall, 226 New York Mets have, at one time, played for the B-Mets/Ponies. Just 71 players have donned a B-Mets/Ponies uniform and gone on to make their Major League debut for the New York Mets in the same season. See page 14 for a full list.
