God’s wisdom makes us one that can be eas- ily entreated. “Entreat” means that we make an earnest request of another. If someone wants something of us, he does not need to beg. But we naturally want to make people “get down on
ence if we do not repent of our sins and become merciful to others as God is to us while we are here on this earth!
God’s wisdom makes Christians impartial. We are naturally partial toward our way of thinking, our nationality, our family, and our religious training. When we open our hearts to Jesus, He delivers us from our partiality. We begin to see all others as people who need Jesus just as much as we need Him. They need His forgive- ness and grace just like we need it. We need Jesus just as much as they need Him. We are equals as humans and we learn to respect all others as equals and love them with Christ’s love. Godly wisdom delivers us from hypocrisy. One evil seed we received from Satan is the ability to pretend. We always try to portray our- selves as someone better than we really are. When we are converted and become as a little child, we are humble enough to admit that there really is nothing good about us. We confess that we are sinners and we need the mercy and for- giveness of Jesus as much as anyone else! We confess that the righteous living is the work of Jesus in our life and not of any personal right- eousness of our own. “If any man lack wisdom, let his ask of God, that gives to all men liberally.” See James 1:5- 8. Friends, this wisdom is for us if we seek it with a true heart, we will have it. Rod & Staff Publishers W6053 County Rd. X Withee, WI 54498 (715) 229-9400
Consider this, my friends! “The Wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.” Read James 3:13-17. Where do you find wis- dom like that today? “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” No one is naturally wise! The loss of wisdom is acute because few fear God! The further humans move away from God and truth, the more sinful and stupid they be- come. Read Romans 1:21-32 for commentary on this. It describes our world today. The wisdom from God is first pure. Sin pol- lutes. There is no wisdom in sin. The fact that a large segment of society does not want to be- lieve in God is one reason we have all the wickedness and violence today. “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.” The true Christian sees God at work in the world. He is sovereign and brings judgments upon so- cieties and nations for the wickedness that comes from ignoring God’s truth. The wisdom of God makes one peaceable! The violence and the destructive protests is the work of Satan in the foolish hearts of men. There is wisdom in laws that protect the values of human life and the personal property of oth- ers. Anarchy is Satan’s work in foolish humans. Godly people seek peaceable ways to quiet the anger of an enemy. Jesus said if your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink. God’s wisdom makes one gentle. Man natu- rally wants to fight. The political arena is full of fighters. Many religious groups are fighters and think they are doing God’s work to fight others who are religious but think differently. If you only read the Old Testament you can justify fighting. But if you study the life and teachings of Jesus, you understand the folly of fighting. It is Godly wisdom that makes Christians gentle in their dealings with others.

their knees” (figure of speech) if they want something from us. A wise person readily helps others who have needs. True Christians are those who actually look for opportunities to share the love of Jesus to others in any way possible. God’s wisdom fills us with mercy! God’s wis- dom delivers us from that human desire to “get even” with one who has wronged us. Everyone
went about doing good. The Gospel story is a story of all the good things that Jesus did. His followers have His love in their hearts and they also go about doing little deeds of kindness to others. “I was hungry and you gave Me food: I was thirsty and you gave Me drink: I was a stranger, and you took Me in…” Read the rest of that in Matthew 25:36. The wise Christian is one who continually thinks of others and thinks of ways to show others the love of Jesus.
needs mercy and everyone can have mercy. “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.” (Matthew 5:7). “For he shall have judgment with- out mercy, that hath showed no mercy.” See James 2:13. The prospect of suffering judgment with- out mercy is something I do not want to experience. But that is what we will experi-
