Preston College Apprenticeship Course Guide 2026-27

HIGHER APPRENTICESHIPS

Higher Apprenticeships (level 4 and above) offer the opportunity to combine advanced, work-based learning with professional qualifications, allowing you to gain both practical experience and in-depth knowledge in your chosen field at a higher level. Unlike entry-level apprenticeships, higher apprenticeships are designed for those who want to develop specialist skills, take on greater responsibility, and accelerate their career development. They provide exposure to real workplace challenges, helping you build leadership, problem-solving, and decision- making skills that are highly valued by employers. Completing a higher apprenticeship can open doors to a wide range of career opportunities. Depending on your chosen pathway, you could progress into senior roles within your

organisation, pursue further professional qualifications, or even move towards degree- level study. Higher apprenticeships give you with the expertise, confidence, and recognised qualifications to take the next step in your career, making them an excellent option for anyone aiming to achieve long-term professional growth while staying actively engaged in the workplace. Many of our higher apprenticeships are delivered in partnership with the Lancashire and Cumbria Institute of Technology (L&CIoT), giving apprentices access to specialist facilities, expert tutors, and industry-relevant training. This partnership ensures that apprentices benefit from cutting-edge resources and real-life experience, helping them develop the advanced skills and knowledge needed to succeed in high- demand roles and progress confidently in their careers.
