Antigua, and attracts a number of local entrants too. The secret to Sailing Week’s longevity is simple, Rana believes. “Antigua is unbeatable for sailing. People all over the world know that, and that’s why they keep coming,” she says. “It’s well organised, the sailors are well taken care of, and participants know it will be executed efficiently. On top of all that, Antigua is an easy place to get to and, once here, has all the services a crew needs to maintain a boat. All those things come together to make it a perfect spot.”

Over the decades, Sailing Week has inspired the creation of many other regattas across the Caribbean, Alison says. “It’s on many people’s bucket lists; other islands are envious of what we have,” she adds. “Sailing Week has always innovated and, with what we were brave enough to do by introducing the Racing Cup, we’ve taken it to the next level. “I believe we can grow both events significantly for 2027.” n By Gemma Handy
