meant the equipment was constantly in jeopardy, and because we couldn’t get a concrete truck up there, we had to do much of the work by hand.” Aquatics International’s impressive résumé includes the Ritz- Carlton in St Thomas and the TMPL NYC aquatic wellness facility where cutting-edge saunas and baths are credited with boosting immunity and circulation, calming the mind, accelerating muscle recovery, and igniting mental clarity. The multi-award-winning company is currently designing a full aquatic campus for a private resort development in the Bahamas, is hard at work in St Barts, and is in talks for projects in Panama, Belize, and the British Virgin Islands. With Antigua & Barbuda attracting high levels of foreign investment – epitomised in big name brands like Nikki Beach now under development on Jolly Beach – Chris is keen to expand into the twin island nation.
The company employs expert craftsmen locally and brings its own team for specialised finishes and detail, such as intricate mosaics. Its ability to travel to diverse and difficult locations sets it apart in its field. “Each project is different, depending on what a client needs. We have the best contractors in the US that travel with us,” Chris explains. “We can do the full design and build, or just build, or consultancy and project management working with local tradespeople. “We renovate pools too; the Caribbean climate can be brutal on materials.” The more time spent on a design reaps dividends when it comes to the construction process, Chris continues. “Common pitfalls come from poor planning, especially in islands with volcanic rock which can add significant unexpected costs.” Chris’ entry into the sector arose from a job cleaning pools in high school. Today he is a certified member of the Society of Watershape Designers and head of one of the most decorated luxury pool design and construction operations in the US. Aquatics International has collected more than a dozen prestigious accolades and industry gold medals over the years, and been shortlisted for the International Architecture & Design Awards. The company’s eye for design and attention to detail – as the mastermind behind some of the most striking poolscapes this side of the Atlantic – saw the Caribbean Journal dub it “arguably the hottest pool company in the region”. n aquaticsint.com inquiry@aquaticsint.com +1 340-474-9799
