A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 10
As we start again after the half term break it is startling to think that we are now halfway through Year 10! Our current cohort are a lovely group of young people and I enjoy witnessing the enthusiasm they bring to their schooling. I hope the week off has provided our students with a chance to refresh and recharge. Whilst on the subject of refreshing, I ask that parents and carers perform a stationery check as at this time of year those gleaming new pencil cases that were bulging with equipment in September are now likely to be somewhat depleted. On top of the usual pens, pencils and ruler, please ensure that your child has a purple pen (used for self-assessment of classwork) and a whiteboard pen (used for quick assessments of learning in the lesson). The last week of term was full of lots of sporting success and interesting themes including a tutor time focus this week on mental health week, hearing from a variety of different people who shared their stories. We hope these have moved and resonated with the students. Massive congratulations to the Year 9 and 10 Football team that won the Richmond schools Football tournament on Monday 5 February. All players contributed to the team’s success and the students came away with a gold medal! The students should all feel so proud of their performance, the standard of play was extremely high. Our Year 10 Rowing team competed at Hampton Boys school on Friday 9 February. In the Year 10/11 race Amy rowed 1311m to place 4th in her heat. We are awaiting the overall results for Waldegrave’s performance so watch this space! Also in that final week, we had our year group assembly presented by Mr Isted where he celebrated LGBTQ+ history month. The assembly explored the impact that historical figures have had on supporting the movement as well as considering why it is important that this event is celebrated. Looking at the epraise leaderboard we have 10SHO in the lead with the most points. In second place is 10PCL and third is 10EAH. Well done to all forms for their hard work this half term, I hope students are thinking about what to spend their epraise points on! Despite the school closure on Tuesday we are pleased that the DT trip to the V&A was able to go ahead. Our Year 10 Textiles students spent the day visiting the Gabrielle Chanel exhibition. Chanel is one of the key designers students study as part of the GCSE curriculum so this was a great opportunity for them.

The 1000 year old boy by Welford Ross
The 1000 year old boy is about Alfie Monk who is a thousand year old but his mother sadly passes away in a fire and he no longer finds the appeal in his long life. Therefore he sets out to find the answers to become an average teenager. I found it really interesting to hear about his experiences and how it shapes his personality.
