THE K I N G ’ S B U S I N E S S

How we, should love Jesus for all that He has given us and taught us! Do you sometimes feel like climbing right into His arms and telling Him you love Him? I do. The Lord Jesus says we can show our love for Him in a better way than that. He has gone away, and we cannot see Him any more, but there are many peo ple who need our love, and whom we can see. Jesus says, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (Matt. 25:40). . ’ It is not easy to love some people, But when Jesus comes into our hearts, we find we can love others, because we love Jesus.

NOTES on Christian Endeavor

November 2—HERBERT W. CASSEL

Mr. Cassel (Biola ’26) had opportunity to observe numerous student “peace movements” of a political character while at tending a state university, but has acted upon his own convic tion concerning the Biblical way to permanent “ peace,” a con viction which he discusses in the lesson, notes he provides this month. He and Mrs. Cassel are serving as missionaries under the Central American Mission at Jutiapa, Guatemala, C. A. As pastor of Calvary Church, Santa Ana, Calif., Mr. Wendt (Biola ’34) is the “home pastor” of a number of young people who are “at work for enduring peace” in Christian witness ing in the United States and beyond this country’s borders. Miss' Redding (B. Chr. Ed. ’39 at Biola) has been conducting services in various Southern California Churches as Director of the Speaking Choir of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles. She has been active also in young people’s work in Burbank and Hollywood, Calif. While still a student In college, Miss Selway (Biola ’38), of Alhambra, Calif., had very remarkable opportunities to wit ness to her fellow students in the classroom and in Bible study classes. For the past two summers she has been a leader among young people and children in evangelistic work in Southern California. Mrs. Aldrich (Doris Coffin), a graduate of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles in the Class o f 1930, and her husband, Willard M. Aldrich, of Vancouver,-Wash., are engaged in publishing the Doorstep Evangel^ a weekly paper for parish distribution. Dr. and Mrs. Aldrich both have‘ served on the faculty of the Multnomah School of the Bible, Portland, Ore.

Object Lesson L earning A bout L ove

OBJECT: A white paper heart. (Make as described in lesson for November 2, with the exception that there are no rectangles in the halves. Color the halves of the heart red on both sides. With the halves folded over the front of the heart, print the word “LOVE" vertically between the halves. Open the halves and use the “L” in spelling “ QUARRELING.” With the “O” com plete the word “JEALOUSY.” Use the “ V” in the word “ENVY,” and “E” in spelling "HATRED.” LESSON: Does this heart remind you of an unsaved person? You would not expect to find such things in the heart of a Christian. In looking at this heart, we wonder how such a heart could ever obey the command of Christ, which says, “A new commandment I give unto-you, That ye love òhe another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another” (John 13:34). Christian love is opposite to the things we find in this heart. But God tells us He is able to change such a heart as this, fo r we read in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new Creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” We will fbld these red pieces over the x heart to show, what happens when a person accepts Christ as his personal Saviour. Instead of quarreling, jealousy, envy, and hatred, we find only love. We are told that the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses from all Sin. The sinner cannot love as God wants him., to unless he accepts Christ as his Saviour. Then his heart will be cleansed from . sin and filled with the love of Christ,

NOVEMBER 2, 1941 CHRISTIAN MISSIONS AS A WAY TO PEACE R omans 10:8-15; M atthew 28:19, 20 By Herbert W. Cassel' Introduction In view of the stark fact that almost the entire world is engaged in the most horrible war ever known, the leader should pause to think clearly before plunging into the discussion of a topic so apparently futile. He'should not fail to show, at the outset, the exact sense in which missions present a way to peace. Otherwise, the whole discussion may be wasted in begging the question. Christian missions do offer, not only a way, but the way, to peace. The question is, What kind of peace—and when? For Those Who Have Topics I. THE MESSAGE OF CHRISTIAN MISSIONS IS THE ONLY WAY TO PEACE, 1. Its present emphasis is personal, not political. a. The “gospel of peace” is, prima rily, that which reconciles a rebellious sinner to a just God (Rom. 5:1-11; Eph,

2:13-18). In two thousand years of mis sions, the prospect of permanent politi cal peace has become more and more remote. Nevertheless, during this time millions of individuals have become reconciled with God and, as a direct consequence, have learned how to live at peace with other men. b. is “the peace of God” Which the Father causes to dwell within the heart of every believer in Christ (Col. 3:15; John 14:27; Phil 4:7), Some modem mis sionaries, having lost sight of this fun damental fact—or( at least, having ig nored its importance—have given them selves over to much sincere but futile effort along the line of political, social, and economic peace movements.1Since the kingdom of God is spiritual, the way to peace must be sought through the application of the Word of God to the hearts of men. He who has not been bom. again “ casino^ see. [understand the nature of] the kingdom of God” (John 3:3). 2. The future aspect of God’s king dom will be political as well as spiritual. When Christ,, the Prince of Peace, es tablishes His capital in Jerusalem, in fulfillment of God’s prorqises to the Jews, every nation will be subjected, for

The peace heralded by missions
